Reverse osmosis water purification: What it is, how does it work, and why do I need it?
Reverse osmosis is regarded as the best, most effective home-use water filtration system on the market. This method is the same process, with the same type of system, that bottled water manufacturer’s use.
Water filtration systems that do not use reverse osmosis are much less effective.  The filters used on these systems do not include the membrane filter, only a filter that only removes pollutants with a large particle size. The filters take out chunky particles, while undesirable contaminants that are fine or dissolved are left behind in the water. What is the science behind reverse osmosis?

A very simple description of how reverse osmosis works in the situation of water filtration is an over-simplification.  However, the best way to explain RO is that it occurs when water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane at high pressure, thus removing tiny particles and pollutants in the water.
