Our membranes are "Made in the USA" and fully certified by NSF. TFC membranes made with material from Dow Chemical. This membrane will auto-flush contaminants down the drain.
Let us try and take the mystery out of the membrane. There are only two manufacturers of the membrane material in the world (that I am aware of). One is Dow Chemical and the other is General Electric. Dow developed the patent based on research conducted by the US Navy. For years they were the only maker. General Electric sued and maintained the patent was public and won.
Dow markets membranes under the name of Filmtec and controls maybe 90% of the domestic market. They also sell the fabric to "rollers" who convert it into membranes of various sizes. Applied Membranes is a converter of Dow Chemical Filmtec fabric. They are the biggest in the World (that I am aware of) in the domestic markets.
All of the E-Bay vendors use either Dow or GE materials. ALL of the US domestic membranes are the same size and ALL fit the same membrane housing. The most popular size membranes for home use are 50-75-100 GPD. THESE ARE FACTORY RATINGS. It is a statement of what you can expect at 77F and 65 PSI and 200 TDS.
The vendors who tell you have have 85 and 110 GPD membranes are spinning. Any membrane will produce more than their rating if you have more PSI or warmer water. Likewise, they will produce less if your water is colder and the psi weaker. For every 1F water temperature, the production rate will drop 1.6%.
All membranes will reject the same...95-98% of various dissolved solids....AT PROPER PSI. As the psi drops so does the production and the rejection rates.
All membranes are self-flushing---that is why there is discharge water of 3:1 or higher. The "brine ratio" is not a function of the membrane, it is a result of the size of the flow restrictor.
ALL membranes need to be washed off or flushed. AQUA-SAFE has a simple turn the knob flush device. Most of the others have a complex procedure, which means customers do not do it. If the membranes are not flushed they tend to clog and die.
Life expectance is a result of TLC. If you flush the membrane every couple of weeks for 10-15 minutes (i.e. turn the knob) and change out the pre-filters every 600 gallons of product water, the membrane will last 5 years +/-. If chlorine or other killer chemicals get to the membrane, or if you have really turbid water (more than 1 NTU), then the membranes will fail sooner...as early as a year with high use and no TLC.
